There are several factors which determine the cost of car shipping. The primary types are: open or enclosed transport, type of delivery, the distance, size of vehicles and if it's operable.
Open or enclosed transport: There are two types of carriers available being open or enclosed transport which normally carry 8-10 vehicles. The rates for using an enclosed carrier are usually much less expensive but your vehicle would be protected from the elements including bugs, debris and oil. This type of service works well for customers who desire extra protection or for classic, antique or luxury vehicles. .
Car Condition: Another consideration is whether or not your vehicle is running. There is usually an additional cost if the transport company has to push or tow your car on to a trailer. It could save you an additional cost if there is any way for you to make sure it is operable.
Car Size: Most transporters normally carry 8-10 vehicles so the more vehicles they can carry, the lower the price. If you are shipping a large vehicle which takes up more room on the carrier would probably mean an additional cost for you. Vehicle modifications such as a lift kit, a camper shell or lowered vehicles, could also add to the cost.
Transport Route: Another consideration is the distance of the shipment and the shipping time which can vary quite a bit. In general, it normally takes 5 to 15 days for East Coast to West Coast and 3 to 7 days to go North to South. Due to this, the transport route may have the largest impact on the cost of shipping.
Door to door delivery: Most transporters will pick up vehicles at your location and deliver it to your new destination. However, there is also another type which can only pickup or deliver vehicles to a terminal. This is usually due to vehicles being in a remote area or because the transport company can't get access to it.
