Open or Enclosed - If you are shipping a rare, custom, exotic or classic vehicle, it's best to spend the additional money and use an enclosed transport. Your vehicle will be protected from the elements including bugs, debris and oil.

Lowest Quote - The lowest quote may not always the best. Pricing varies from company to company which is why it's always best to get 4-6 quotes from different companies. Your vehicle may not be picked up in a timely manner or there may be additional costs involved.

Quote Expiration - Quotes are usually good for 15 days from the day it was generated but can vary so it's always a good idea to check with each transporter. Factors including truck availability for a specific route, current fuel prices and shipping volume are constantly changing which will affect your quote.

Pick up and Delivery - Most transporters will try to pick up your vehicle at your front door if possible. However, some residential areas may be a problem for 8-10 car transporters. If this happens, they may ask for you to meet at a open parking lot or a terminal.

Vehicle Dimensions - Shipping a large vehicle which takes up more room on the carrier may mean an additional cost for you. Vehicle modifications such as a lift kit, a camper shell or lowered vehicles, could also add to the cost. In addition, vehicles should not exceed 7' in height and have at least 4" ground clearance.

Advance Notice - Most transporters would like to receive 1 to 2 weeks notice in advance from the date that you want the vehicle shipped. The more notice you give will allow the transporter to pick up your vehicle on the day you request. In certain circumstances you may be able to have your vehicle picked up the same day or next day.

Insurance Tips - The shipper probably provides minimal insurance at no extra charge, but this may not be enough. Other insurance options should be available from the shipper as an extra expense that may give you more protection. Before selecting any insurance option, understand whether you will be reimbursed based on the extent of the damage. Check your homeowner's and auto insurance for any damage coverage.

Personal Belongings - Most carriers will allow you to pack up to 100 lbs in your trunk or backseat. Personal items packed in the vehicle are NOT covered by the carrier's insurance which is why it's a good idea to remove GPS systems, satellite radios, car phones and garage door openers.
